(More customer reviews)After reading all the reviews we took a chance and ordered two of these throws--
one for me, and one for my husband--and boy, are we glad we did! We love them! They arrived much sooner than we expected, given they were travelling from Ecuador to northern California (in about 2 weeks). We use them as throws while watching TV.
They are large (which is great, because we're both tall--unlike a lot of throws that are skimpy--these are the size of blankets, so plenty of room to tuck under your feet and pull up to your chin. As another reviewer noted, I wondered how warm they would be, given how lightweight they are, but they are very warm and cozy. We ordered the "soft brown earth tone cream" color, which is an elegant blend of ivory and taupe yarns. One note: The four edges are finished "flat" (vs. turned under) with a machine overlock stitch (using an ivory-colored soft yarn on our throws)--and the corners are rounded. This is the only thing I wasn't 100% sold on--I would have preferred a more finished edge, like a hand sewn rolled edge (which I might try doing myself) or a woven edge like on a pashmina scarf--but it's a minor drawback. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat. Finally, I had wondered whether alpaca might be kind of scratchy like mohair, but happily these throws feel just like cashmere! These are a great price for the quality!

More alpaca fiber is produced each year than cashmere or mohair. No other animal produces fiber that has the softness of cashmere, the luster of silk, the lightness of goose feathers, the durability of wool, and the warmth of a cozy fireplace. The alpaca has been domesticated (as versus its kin llama, which is primarily a work animal) and carefully bred for over 5,000 years as a luxury fiber-producing animal. Alpaca wool has been prized for centuries for its incredible combination of softness, lightness, and warmth. Alpaca is best cared for by dry cleaning although light soiling can frequently be removed with water, especially if the stain has not set. This is quality merchandise at a great price. The only problem is that it is made in and shipped from Ecuador, a small country in South America, so shipping time and if necessary returns are longer than usual. We ship via Postal Services within 24 hours of purchase, 6 days a week, and normal delivery time is 10 to 21 days.
