(More customer reviews)I bought this blanket to replace a Vellux one that the dogs (let's face it -- it's their bed, they just let me sleep on it) had scratched holes through while making bed "nests" -- it looked to be a similar type blanket, was the same color, and also not too expensive. The fact that it's made from recycled products is also pretty neat. However, it was a lot rougher than I was expecting - but most blankets that aren't fleece are sometimes like that new. I've had it for about 6 months now and it's gone through repeated washings (two big black dogs that shed means the bedding gets washed at least once a week) and it really hasn't gotten much softer. It's starting to kind of pill. It is, however, holding up very nicely to dog claws. It is also VERY warm -- I bought it at the end of July and I live in the Midwest where we get hot and humid Augusts and there were a few nights when I almost had to rip it off the bed because I couldn't sleep I was so hot.
But the feel of it just isn't like I expected and I'm already looking to replace it with a real Vellux blanket again -- it's irritating enough that I can't have it up by my face when I sleep -- I push it down to my chest and pull the comforter to my face.
Pros: very warm, relatively inexpensive, made of recycled materials, holds up well to dog claws
Cons: itchy/rough fabric, some type of pilling after repeated wash, kind of stiff
It's not a bad blanket -- and I sleep with it directly on my skin instead of using a top sheet (and have been doing so for about the last 5 months) so it's not completely terrible, but definitely not the softest thing out there (I prefer the Vellux blankets which are becoming nearly impossible to find at a decent price).
