It's like a very small, heated blanket. You can wear it as a shawl if you really want to, but you will look terribly silly. Personally, I sit on it and it makes the office temperatures moderately more tolerable. It's just the right size to cover your lap or line the back of your chair so don't expect anything big. The temperature definitely isn't up to specs with a full electric blanket that you'd plug into a wall socket but it's noticeable -- I'd say this thing on "high" is about like the heated seats in my car on "low". It's warm enough to notice and make a difference.
