(More customer reviews)I pretty much have to order a new heated blanket every year. Despite living in the relatively mild environs of the San Francisco Bay Area- I am perpetually freezing. Being cold-blooded, if nothing else, has made me quite the expert on heated blankets.
This one, I like. Could it be better? Sure, always. So far, probably the best one yet.
It has a fabulously long cord. This is important because a heated throw won't get too hot if you can't plug it in. This does require an outlet with a ground(three prongs instead of just two). Once plugged in, your blankie will begin heating up just as soon as you set the dial (anywhere from 1-lukewarm to 10-I-think-I-just-set-myself-on-fire) and then press the little oval on/off button next to the temp dial.
Once your blankie has been turned on, it will remain that way for the next 10 hours before automatically shutting off. I love the long shut-off feature- the throws that shut off after 3 hours drive me nuts because I end up waking up freezing cold in my bed at 3am. I love that this one stays on and has such a wide range of temps that can be easily adjusted.
Sadly, this blanket- despite being made from a plushy material, doesn't actually qualify as plush. It feels like what it is: a couple of layers of thin, slightly stretchy material with yards of wire sandwiched in between.
I've been using this blanket for about a week now and normally cannot turn it up past 5 without being uncomfortably warm or waking up sweaty. A 3 or 4 usually does it which is nice considering my experience in the past tells me that the blankets warmth tends to diminish over time. With frequent use the blanket may lose its ability to heat all the way up- I am hoping that using it on 3 now, will, in a year, allow me to dial up a higher temp to continue to get adequate warmth.
I got the blue blanket- a nice, solid navy blue color. The size is pretty typical for a throw- this is not a blanket intended to cover an entire bed but rather to snuggle up in on the couch. Sometimes I lay it on my side of the bed to warm it up before I get in. Sometimes I sleep on top of it and others, under it. Seems decent quality for the price.
