It's "brain" allows for a wide range of heat settings, and the thermostat turns it on and off as the temperature in the room fluctuates. On the coldest nights it can safely be left on as you sleep. Incidentally, I've owned my Sunbeam blanket for eighteen years and it's still going strong. If it ever succumbs to old age, I'll buy another immediately. A reliable and comforting product.
